Amputees rave about the iWALK Hands Free Crutch

The iWALK is the world’s best crutch alternative. But don’t take our word for it. Read the feedback from our happy amputees. They used crutches. Then they used iWALK crutch. Here’s what they have to say.

We love to hear form you!

Although the iWALK crutch was originally intended for lower leg, non-weight bearing injuries, the Below Knee Amputee (BKA) community has discovered the iWALK. They have been using it and sharing their success stories with us.

The iWALK crutch is now being used throughout the BKA community both as pre-permanent prosthetic transition device, as well as a post permanent prosthetic everyday device to fill in when they cannot, or do not want, to use their prosthetic. Rather than facing the limiting and unwanted challenges of other options such as crutches, wheelchairs, and scooters, or even hopping and crawling, more and more, the BKA community is reaching for the iWALK as a solution.

Anytime a Below Knee Amputee would have use for a prosthetic, the iWALK crutch can fill in!

“With the iWALK crutch I can do the impossible!”

After a motorcycle accident on August 2014, I had to have my leg amputated. Before my accident I was extremely active and ran 5ks with my wife. I was completed devastated when my leg was amputated but I vowed to still walk in the Parkersburg Homecoming 2 Mile Race. With the iWALK crutch I was able to cross the finish line, and one week later walk a 5K. My doctor was amazed at the level of mobility I could achieve and marveled at how I didn’t need physical therapy when I was eventually fitted for my prosthetic. With the iWALK crutch I was able to do the impossible and still use it around the house as it’s more comfortable and quicker to get in and out of than my prosthetic.

“Loosing my leg was a huge tragedy for me, but now that I have the iWALK crutch I can do my favorite activities!”

“Since the amputation of my leg in December from a motorcycle accident I have used the iWALK crutch daily. Before the accident I was an extremely active and independent individual so losing my leg was definitely a huge tragedy for me. Before I got my iWALK crutch I had a wheelchair, which held me back from 90% of my daily activities. Now that I have the iWALK crutch I can do some of my favorite activities such as going to the gym (I’m an aspiring trainer), rock climbing, the beach and whatever other good time that is thrown my way; I have even been to two different music festivals. My daily activities, such as household maintenance, are so much easier and more comfortable than they were in the wheelchair or on crutches.

The iWALK crutch has helped me psychologically as well. How so? Well, I had a healthy and active lifestyle and now because of my accident I pretty much had that ripped away from me. It’s almost been 7 months and I know I wouldn’t have been able to keep the mindset I have had if it weren’t for the iWALK crutch. It has definitely helped me keep my sanity in check, helped with depression, and has been an overall confidence booster. Now waiting on my prosthetic and counting the days.

“It will bring you a freedom you didn’t know existed, without any pain or hassle!”

“I lost my left foot in a motorcycle accident 20 years ago. Since then, I have used several prostheses. The prosthesis is great for getting around town but wearing it is tiring and painful. Before I found the iWALK crutch, I moved about my house on my knees because I hated crutches. My doctor said I had to start using crutches because my knees got infected. The iWALK crutch saved me from crutches and a dangerous infection! I can now carry a cup of coffee and my parrot Zsa Zsa!  I would absolutely recommend the iWALK crutch for anyone who is amputated below the knee. It will bring you a freedom you didn’t know existed, without any pain or hassle. I am so grateful for the iWALK crutch and wish it had been around 20 years ago!”

“The iWALK crutch has done wonders for me. I owe my life to it!”

“I lost most of my left foot in a motorcycle accident in 2013. Since then, I’ve been stuck in a wheelchair or hopping around on a walker until I discovered the iWALK crutch. I took to it immediately and could walk up and down stairs within 10 minutes. I’ve been on an iWALK crutch for about 3 months now. I use it day in and day out and I put my iWALK crutch through Hell. I’ve been using it for 3 months and my doctor was astonished at how much my left leg muscles have regenerated. The iWALK crutch has done wonders for my mental health: it lifted me out of post-accident depression and has kept me positive. I owe my life to it!”.

“It has truly been a lifesaver”

“Last summer, my daughter Kenna was involved in a UTV accident.   She was rushed to the hospital, and that night had to have her leg amputated.   Kenna was a very active child – in fact, the day before the accident she had her photo taken with her softball team, and was looking forward the season.

I have to say that before I first saw the IWALK crutch, I was considering making something like it.  But lucky for Kenna I did not opt for self-engineering a device such as this.  Instead, I opted to buy the IWALK crutch instead.

It has truly been a lifesaver. I have no doubt that without the IWALK Kenna would be dealing with serious depression issues as a result of her accident. But the IWALK gave her back her freedom to go and do things. She has done anything she has wanted this summer. Including swimming in the ocean.”

“I love it! I use it every night!”

“There are times when I don’t want to wear my prosthetic like when I’m taking it off for the night. I need some type of alternate transportation. I’ve tried crutches, and wheelchairs, and knee scooters and walking around and crawling around and all of these methods have their pros and cons except for crutches. I really, really just hate crutches! So wouldn’t it be nice if there was something … “

“So wouldn’t it be nice if there was something sorta like your prosthetic, but not exactly like your prosthetic, that you could use when you’re not using your prosthetic? Well there’s this thing called the iWALK crutch and it’s super cool.

The iWALK crutch is super easy to assemble and walk with. Before iWALK crutch, when my prosthetic was off, I crawl on the floor, which is horrible for my knees, or use crutches (which I hate) . Also, my house has a lot of stairs, so it’ll be great to go downstairs to the bathroom or kitchen at night or just after a long day, using the iWALK crutch. I love it! I use it every night! I am glad I got iWALK crutch early in my rehabilitation so I can stop hopping so much. My joints will thank me when I’m 80!”

“I’ve regained my independence and my end of the day pain is gone!”

“Thanks to the iWALK crutch, I can move around my home after having taken my prosthesis off at the end of the day. Unlike using crutches, I can be hands-free. The iWALK crutch is liberating! I’ve regained my sense of independence. I felt helpless when I took my leg off, and didn’t take it off until bed. Now that I’m able to use the iWALK crutch, my end of the day pain is history.”

“I’m thinking about buying two: one for each leg!”

“I am a double below knee amputee and recently had a minor surgery on my left leg and was not able to wear my prosthesis until my leg healed. I had been on crutches last year and was not looking forward to doing it again! I thought a knee scooter would work until I realized that it requires both hands to navigate. I bought the iWALK crutch on a whim and have been astonished at how easy it was to set up and use. I originally thought I would only use it temporarily, but now I’m considering buying two for late night snack and bathroom runs!”

“The iWALK Crutch made adjusting to my prosthesis a cinch and I still use it every day!”

“I had a below the knee amputation of my right leg due to long-standing problems caused by a birth defect. At first, I used a wheel chair and crutches to move around. Then I found out about the iWALK crutch, bought one, and was able to walk within one month after my below the knee amputation. I didn’t get my first prosthetic leg until two months after my amputation, but adjusting to it was a cinch thanks to the iWALK crutch!
I have used my iWALK crutch every day since. I use it in the morning and evening when I want a break from my prosthetic. Also, I use it when I go to the pool or take a shower because it can get wet without being damaged. I would highly recommend the iWALK crutch to any amputee as another tool for effective mobility. Thanks iWALK crutch for giving me freedom and mobility!”

“The iWALK crutch saved my life and kept my family from being homeless”

“I had to have my leg amputated at 37 years old. It took months for me to get fitted for my prosthesis as my wound didn’t heal properly. Unfortunately, I had to work my job in the concrete industry to support my family as I wasn’t eligible for disability. For the first few weeks, I crawled in humiliation on the worksite while my wound festered with infection. I shouldn’t have been working, but …

I shouldn’t have been working, but I had to choose between working or my family and I being homeless. The iWALK crutch saved my life and gave me the mobility I needed to work in the physically demanding, rough and tumble world of concrete.

“ I Used the iWALK crutch in charity walk – and it paid for my amputation!”

“I was born with Metaphyseal Dysplasia: a congenital disorder characterized by malunion of the bones and easily fractured feet and hands. Due to my disability, I have had countless surgeries on my right foot due to reoccurring fractures. There was lots of physiotherapy, pain clinic, acupuncture, steroid injections, orthopaedic shoes, Tens machine, medications and years and years on crutches, I decided enough was enough and was set on getting an amputation to end my severe foot pain. Four weeks prior to my amputation, I got the iWALK crutch hands free crutch.
What a difference! After being on crutches for years, I could now walk! I was able to …

“I was able to do everything, including taking care of my horse in the stables.
This spring I used the iWALK crutch to walk in a 5K, the proceeds of which paid for my amputation and left me with enough additional money to donate to my favorite charity, Conquest Centers. With the iWALK crutch, I was able to realize my medical and charitable goals, and get my life back. I was even able to get back on the iWALK only two weeks after my amputation, which sped up the process of rehabilitation and adapting to my permanent prosthetic”.

“The doctors were amazed at the level of mobility I was able to regain”

“After my amputation, I was on crutches, in a wheel chair. When I realized I had to navigate stairs I knew I needed something else.
I was able to use the iWALK crutch about three weeks post amputation. I have a front flap closure. I didn’t notice any discomfort, pain or pressure from the iWALK. The doctors were amazed at the mobility I was able to regain. Getting the level of freedom back right away is something that is both physically and psychologically important for amputees, and can really … “

” … and can really help people move forward. It will minimize, if not eliminate the depression aspect that people experience when they lose a limb.
Having to deal with crutches and wheelchair was a nightmare. The everyday regular things you take for granted, become difficult, and an ordeal. You’re having to figure out and jury rig all these crazy kinds of things. With the iWALK, hey, you just put it on and you can do whatever you need.”

“Without the iWALK, I probably would have climbed the clock tower and shot everyone.”

“The iWALK crutch has changed my life as an amputee. Before I found out about it, I spent three years on crutches, and knowing what I know now, I can’t imagine how much life would have been better had I known about the iWALK crutch. I tried everything, even a knee scooter, but it was always in the way, and impractical. It was a huge pain. But with the iWALK you can actually stand up, walk, and be totally hands free. You don’t have to be reliant on anyone else. … “

Alina – Denver, Colorado

“My transition to my permanent prosthetic took longer than expected. I relied completely on the iWALK. I don’t know how I could have done this with crutches. The iWALK became my primary mode of transportation, because nothing else was that good! Without the iWALK, I probably would have climbed the clock tower and shot everyone.

Using the iWALK became a game changer for me. It immediately became indispensable. Even though now I’m using my permanent prosthetic, I still use my iWALK every single day. Ultimately, this product has been an amazing thing for me. I f#####g love my iWALK!”

“I instantly fell in love with the iWALK crutch”

“In December 2016, I had a LBKA and started using a prosthetic in February 2017. I suffered from a pressure ulcer in July and had to resort back to crutches because I was unable to wear my prosthetic. Shortly after, I was able to obtain the iWALK crutch and instantly fell in love with it because I was mobile again. I introduced the iWALK to my doctors at the Maury Regional Wound Center in Columbia TN and they were so impressed. I feel that others could benefit from the iWALK. “

“With the iWALK crutch I’m able to do everything I did before with two healthy legs”

“There are some days when I can’t wear my prosthetic leg due to soreness/swelling from over use or physical therapy. Instead of having crutches be my only alternative to getting around, I’m able to use the iWALK crutch… “

Kallie Gates

” … Crutches limits me in all of my activities yet with the iWALK crutch I’m able to do everything I did before with two healthy legs. This hands free device helped me out before my surgery when I was in extreme pain and couldn’t walk. Now I’m able to use it as my primary substitute so I don’t miss out on my Christmas traditions.”

“You have truly helped so many live a better life with this design of the iWALK crutch”

“Thanks a million times over for this wonderful design that has truly made my life much easier than I could have ever imagined. I love how easy it is to put on and take off. I love that there’s things like lifting groceries that I can’t do in my prosthesis that I can do while wearing the iWALK crutch
You’re amazing. You have truly helped so many live a better life with this design of the iWALK crutch”
